BT Bell Supports Delivery of New Asphalt Coating Plant at Tarmac’s Barrasford Quarry

BT Bell Consulting Engineers is proud to have played a key role in the successful delivery of the new asphalt coating plant at Tarmac's Barrasford Quarry in Northumberland, providing full civil and structural engineering design services throughout the project.

The new plant represents a significant investment in the region's infrastructure, increasing production capacity while incorporating modern technologies designed to improve operational efficiency and support more sustainable asphalt production. The facility is capable of utilising higher levels of recycled asphalt planings (RAP), helping to reduce material consumption and lower carbon emissions.

BT Bell provided civil and structural engineering expertise across the development, supporting the design and delivery of the infrastructure required for the new plant installation. Working closely with Tarmac and the wider project team, our involvement helped ensure the efficient integration of the new facility within the operational quarry environment.

Located near Hexham, Barrasford Quarry has supplied aggregates to the North East for decades and continues to play an important role in supporting construction and infrastructure projects across the region. The new asphalt plant ensures the site remains well positioned to meet future demand while delivering improved sustainability and operational performance.

The new asphalt plant was featured in the July 2026 issue of Quarry Management magazine, showcasing the project and its successful delivery.

We are delighted to have contributed to another successful project within the quarrying sector and look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Tarmac on future developments.
