New Asphalt Coating Plant at Tarmac’s Barrasford Quarry

BT Bell Consulting Engineers is proud to have played a key role in delivering the new asphalt coating plant at Tarmac's Barrasford Quarry in Northumberland. Specifically, Our team provided complete civil and structural engineering design services throughout the development.

Overall, the new facility represents a major investment in North East infrastructure. It increases production capacity while using modern technologies to improve efficiency and support sustainable asphalt production. Crucially, the plant utilizes higher levels of recycled asphalt planings (RAP). This reduces material consumption and lowers overall carbon emissions.

Throughout the development, BT Bell delivered essential civil and structural engineering expertise across the site. We supported the design and delivery of all key infrastructure for the new plant installation. By working closely with Tarmac and the wider project team, we ensured the seamless integration of the facility within an active quarry environment.

Historically, Barrasford Quarry near Hexham has supplied aggregates to the North East for decades. Today, it remains vital to regional construction and infrastructure projects.
