Alyth Substation – Nearing Completion! March 2023
BT Bell provided comprehensive substation civil design services for the new Alyth 275kV Substation project as site works reached final completion.
Specifically, our civil engineering team delivered ground engineering, foundation design, and site infrastructure solutions for this major power development. Furthermore, we provided continuous technical support as construction progressed across key site phases in Perthshire.
Substation Civil Design and Site Delivery
Throughout the construction phase, establishing a durable foundation platform in variable Scottish ground conditions required precise engineering. Crucially, designing stable platforms for heavy electrical equipment is vital to ensure long-term site safety and performance.

Platform Earthworks: Engineering bulk earthworks and platform leveling to support high-voltage electrical assets. Additionally, we managed subgrade compaction across the entire site footprint.

Structural Foundations: Designing heavy-duty reinforced concrete foundations for main transformers and gantries. Also, our team detailed cable trenching and containment networks across the compound.

Access & Drainage: Engineering durable access roads for heavy transport vehicles. Simultaneously, we delivered sustainable surface water management systems to control run-off.
