BT Bell provided substation earthworks civil engineering design services for the major new Kinardochy Substation development in Perthshire.

Specifically, our engineering team delivered comprehensive earthworks, site drainage, and geotechnical solutions for this strategic power infrastructure project. Furthermore, we provided ongoing technical oversight as site preparation progressed across challenging terrain.

Substation Earthworks Civil Engineering Scope

Throughout the initial earthworks phase, preparing a stable platform across variable ground conditions required precise geotechnical analysis. Crucially, establishing balanced cut-and-fill volumes was essential to minimize imported material and optimize site logistics.

Recently, key civil engineering deliverables for the Kinardochy site included:

  • Platform Earthworks: Engineering large-scale excavation and bulk earthworks to form the main substation footprint. Additionally, we specified subgrade compaction criteria to support high-voltage electrical equipment.

  • Drainage Systems: Designing heavy-duty surface water management networks. Also, our team integrated sustainable drainage features to manage site run-off effectively.

  • Access Infrastructure: Developing heavy-duty access roads. Simultaneously, we engineered hardstanding areas to accommodate heavy transport vehicles during equipment delivery.
